Everyone Likes Funny Stories, Right?

Well these funny stories are about car shopping. Steve's beloved Taupemobile has 220,000 miles on it, and it decided to show its age last weekend. We dropped it off at the dealership, and while it was being diagnosed, we shopped! As we were getting ready to go, the salesman introduced us to his manager, Max. Max asked us a few questions about the Taupemobile, and just as he was saying in the most uncompelling voice, "I'll give you $2,000 for your car. Would this make you happy?" and gesturing with his arm, an enormous, unidentifiable insect flew right into his armpit. Just as he was closing his pitch, he put down his arm, trapping the insect in his armpit, with its freaky long antennae poking out at us. shudder. Now I don't know if this gentleman knew he had just squished a very frightening looking bug in his armpit, or if it was going to eat him, but it was pretty clear to both Steve & I that there would be no more negotiating.

Later that day, we saw a clown driving a red Monte Carlo! That's right, an honest-to-goodness clown.

I think those combined make for no-new-car omens, so we are paying the dealership a pretty penny for an new exhaust downpipe!

Here is another important part of our life ... our kitties!

That's Brian Wilson on the left, and Piper on the right. They are the handsomest and cutest kitties in town! And as you can see, they are also best friends.

The Grand Tour

Well, I figured since it's been several months since the sites been updated, and our lives are resuming some sort of normalcy, it would be a good time to show everyone how our house turned out. So welcome to the grand tour of the Avalanche.

Here's our dining room. You'll notice we did away with the fine chandelier. Also, one of our cats, Brian Wilson, snuck into that photo. He's such a handsome fellow.

Our marvelous futon and veg zone.

I am very pleased with how our fireplace turned out! That picture is a divi-divi tree, native to Aruba, where we took our honeymoon -- isn't that special?

Our brand new kitchen with hickory cabinets and solid-surface countertop.

Downstairs bathroom. It has a froggy shower curtain.

And the upstairs "French Cafe" bathrom. Boy it's hard taking pictures in these teensy bathrooms!

Marina's studio!

Our bedroom.

The loft view from our bedroom.

Isn't it amazing?! Yay! And thank you to all the Avalanche crew who worked so hard to make our new house perfect for us!

No Lyin' it's Labor Day

Our contractor made it out to the Avalanche and started to take out the kitchen wall.

Pretty exciting!

Also we primed the upstairs floor to be rid of the stink, and did some caulking all around. Things are seeming less frightening all the time.

We purchased our sink fixtures, vanities and light fixtures for the bathrooms. Marina re-injured her poor finger trying to assist Troy carrying the vanity into the house. Sadness! It cripples her typing.

We are looking forward to a fun-filled Labor Day weekend spackling and such – we might even get to painting by Monday!
